Sketchbook

These are some of my sketches. I use all kinds of things to make marks on the page; charcoal, pencils, brushes, feathers, sticks, seaweed, string, lino prints. Some of the drawings are direct sketches of what I see, some are from memory, some are drawn without looking at the page. I work on paper mostly and recently I have enjoyed making my own sketchbooks with handmade paper. Making the sketchbooks in a concertina format has been a most enjoyable and freeing method for me. The practice of drawing regularly in this way has helped me to loosen up with my work in general. These drawings & paintings are as equally important as my other paintings, if not the most important, as this is where my ideas flow .
